Cobblestone LP, 1972
(remixed and reissued, Muse LP 1980)
1 total submission
2 spirit of truth
3 al-alim (the knower)
4 al haqq (the truth)
5 dorian
6 exodus
emanuel k. rahim (juan amalbert), virgil jones, kiane zawadi, hugh brodie, george gold, james patterson, alex blake, ray armando, john griggs, tommy dirk, ralph sawyer, mike richmond
despite the apparent conversion of the latin jazz quintet's juan amalbert to islam, this is an album of fairly straightforward latin jazz. which isn't at all meant to be an insult. it cooks, even in the name of allah the compassionate and merciful. all praise. key track: spirit of truth.

Showing the much nicer Cobblestone cover; the Muse cover is an updated random pretty-girl photo but not as well designed. this is ripped from the 1980 version...don't know what the difference in sound might be since it does say "remixed". As a bonus am attaching two tracks from an out-of-print Muse CD anthology, the only time this album got near the digital age.

nice stuff ish. I know i've got "Spirit of Truth" somewhere in my CD collection, but no idea where ... which Muse comp was this?
simon
glad everybody likes. I like it to, though the version of Exodus (and is that what, irony?) is pretty sappy.
Simon, the CD in question was "Latin Jazz Experience", one of three CD comps issued by pHO, a label set up to appeal to acid jazz groove heads by Muse five minutes before being bought by 32Jazz. Had some Dom Um Romao, Carlos Garnett. Would like to track down "The People's Groove" by Harold Ousley, tasted on that CD.
ah that's where it was!
My copy of "Latin Jazz Experience" has a different Ousley track, one called 'El Exi-Hente' ...
Hey Simon that Harold Ousley album just popped up over on Funky Disposition. Downloading it now.
thanks for the tip ish, but looks like funky disposition has gone private ? Think i sent a reuest but didn't hear back ...
Yeah Private. But he has Funky Disposition 2 now, not private, and it's there too! http://funkydisposition2.blogspot.com/
plus some mark murphy.
hey thanks ish ... it's on the download now :)
Excellent, superb album. Many thanks for posting it.
