No Samba In Sight, An Ile Oxumaré Compilation

lilting tropical rhythms, afro-brasilian percussion, airily chanting girly choruses. right? not here.

i really love brazilian music, and judging from the influence of brazilian music over jazz going back at least to the 1930s and 40s, many musicians and music-lovers do too. i have nothing bad to say about sambas or bossa nova or certainly not the kind of tropical flavor musicians like airto brought to fusion in the 1970s. i love all that stuff. but it's not all there is.

this compilation, of which i'm really proud, is another side of brazilian music. with influences from psychedelic folk, prog rock, free jazz, european and american pop music, and the forests of the amazon, the music here has a really different flavor. i hope you enjoy it.

mp3s, this will fit on a single cd, but I put this together from a lot of different sources; bit rate varies by song, sorry 'bout that. Let me know if you like it!

thanks for the compilation, but maybe you have an m3u file to give us in order to listen in the particular order you've chosen? or should we have to re-number the tracks following the order in your presentation?

Hey Oui.

I thought I successfully renumbered the ID3 tags for this to get teh numbering right. Disappointing that that doesn't hold. Pardon my ignorance but what's an m3u file and how do I make one?

creating an m3u file is very easy: first you put your compilation tracks in the same folder (this should already be the case, but it's an important point to mention in order to succeed the following steps). then in winamp you enqueue all the tracks in the right order. once it's done you go down right to winamp's "manage playlist" button, then you make a "save playlist" (save it to the folder that's containing the files). you can give the name you want to it. that's it! once done, test it by clicking on it. it's important to save in the same folder, so everyone will be able to use this m3u by adding it to their already downloaded folder, even if their folder's name is different :)
if a song from the compilation is renamed afterwards, the m3u will ignore it. if you need me to do the m3u and send it, just let me know

Thanks, Oui, for the instructions. I use iTunes not winamp, but if the iTunes ID3 tags aren't holding the compilation together then that's no good. I will download winamp and give it a try. Ah, technology.

I wonder if the track order holds up for other iTunes users. Anybody?

well.. i'm a visceral itunes hater, so i won't be very helpful this time ;)

There's a neat little share/freeware program out there called PostAssistant which will create NFO's, M3U's, and SFV's.

Avantgardeterbelt, what are all these formats? Do they work inside iTunes?
