i posted michael howell's earlier album "looking glass" here a couple months back. i'd owned and enjoyed it since the 1970s, never hearing too much about him in the interim and waiting in vain for it to ever appear on cd. well at some point i figured out there was a second milestone album by him and saw some mad high prices on used lp sites.
in this guest post, sawanotsuru of the fledgling blog ef(in)sane has stepped up to the plate and come forward with an excellent rip of a wrongfully obscure classic lp. it's pure seventies milestone heaven: headhunter bennie maupin playing reeds, black jazz star henry franklin playing bass, underrecognized conga ace kenneth nash and milestone stalwart ndugu laying down the beats. howell himself is a really interesting guitarist, i can't say i'd really compare him to anybody else; with him playing you really don't notice the lack of a keyboardist.
ps a different version of the title track can also be found on michael white's impulse lp, "go with the flow." interesting cross-polination.
anyway, i'm thrilled to present this. be sure to thank sawanotsuru for sharing this!
