Some great shares at Magic Purple Sunshine this week. First off is somebody you've probably never heard of--I hadn't--the Erich Kleinschuster Sextett. It's a live recording of an ensemble playing both "bop-ish and free-ish" music; the personnel aren't too familiar to me except MPS stalwart Fritz Pauer on piano and electric piano. It's got a real expansive sound, very spiritual sounding at times; from 1971.
Very much on the avant garde tip is a super rarity: The Music of Gunter Hampel: Out of New York, abstract but still accessible jazz (featuring Hampel's wife Jeanne Lee) that will appeal to fans of Marion Brown or the Chicago scene. Also from 1971.
There's a new gospel album (Stars of Faith and Black Nativity), some really interesting superstar-packed concert dates (check out the the two Zurich Jazztage concerts) plus lots more--check out this post for recent updates but if you scroll through the pages I think you'll be happily surprised at how much incredible music is over there.
